Free and Easy Wandering: A Journey through Chinese Meditation the Taoist Arts Center's  summer retreat, taking place in New York State's beautiful Catskill Mountain Forest Preserve. Director Susan Rabinowitz will teach Free and Easy Wandering, guiding students of all styles and levels of experience past the externals and into the heart of Chinese Meditation. Students will receive thorough and clear instruction in meditation learning the techniques of the Chinese masters.

Free from routine stress, charged with the energy of the mountains and guided by a master teacher, this is a rare opportunity to learn and practice real Taoist Meditation. Seasoned students of all styles will find their practice enriched and rejuvenated. Newcomers to meditation will get off to a relaxing yet powerful start. The insights to be gained from this retreat will be useful to meditators, healers, martial artists, everyone who wants to achieve a clear, relaxed and balanced spirituality and everyone who is fascinated with meditation but mystified as to how it really works.

Free and Easy Wandering: A Journey through Chinese Meditation will help you to:

  • Relax
  • Release stress
  • Awaken your spirituality
  • Improve your concentration
  • Breathe more fully
  • Open your energy channels
  • Dissolve your inner blockages
  • Resolve difficulties
  • Balance the energies of your body, emotions and mind

This retreat introduces students to different styles of sitting, standing and moving meditations, with instruction in posture, breathing and concentration. Special emphasis will be given to the Taoist Water Method of Lao Tzu, a unique meditation tradition with a gentle approach that has many applications to everyday life.

Like water wears away rock, Taoist Meditation practices wear away obstacles to our spiritual growth, leading us gently inward to our being and helping us to fully live our daily lives. Students will learn techniques of body-mind awareness that will enable them to resolve difficulties and attain a clear, relaxed, and balanced spirituality.

Free and Easy Wandering: A Journey through Chinese and Taoist Meditation  will be complemented by instruction in Water-method Chi Kung. Water-method Chi Kung gently dissolves energy blockages while strengthening the body, mind and spirit, thus avoiding the potential harm that may result from more forceful practices. All Water Method practices are designed to harmonize individuals with themselves, their envorinment and the universe around them.

Chinese Tui-Na massage will also be included.

For students at all levels of experience and practitioners of all styles of Meditation

Here are a few comments from our campers:

  • I liked everything about Camp. The place, the group, the instruction, the content of the retreat and especially the peace of it all.  Susan has a wonderful awareness of the pace of learning and the careful lesson plans allowed me to learn all the material comfortably. Douglas B

  • Taoist Meditation is absolutely simple and practical. One can start the practice and the journey right away. Carsin

  • Camp really helped me to deepen my practice. The relaxing atmosphere and nurturing quality of Susie's teaching are conducive for a wonderful learning environment Max Q

  • Susan's adaptable and concise teaching style wiggled into cracks in my tension and helped it open naturally from the inside. Tyler B.

  • The entire experience was wonderful in every way - setting, instruction, topic, food, weather and best of all wonderful fellow practitioners. The  Marriage of Heaven and Earth has endless potential, yet is forgiving to beginners. All of the Chi Kung principles are reflected in this practice, I  liked that it combines physical movement with energy movement. It also  introduces an entirely new way of experiencing my body, Maureen C.

  • I love the individual attention and focus on being good to yourself. The food was great and camping by the river was wonderful. Oliver W,
