taoist-arts.com News: BBC News: Class starts with Tai Chi (Posted 11/4/2001)
Tai Chi, the martial art commonly used for health and competition in Asia is being used in the United Kingdom for grade school children. Teachers have introduced Tai Chi practice in the beginning of the school day as a way to help students, aged 5 to 11, concentrate of their lessons. The idea was the brainchild of teacher Anne D'Souza, who does Tai Chi herself as a hobby.
She said she and her colleagues believe the children respond better in class since they began morning exercises.
"After doing their Tai Chi the children come into the classroom and it really quietens them down - they are more prepared for their work and it creates a better atmosphere for the school."
The children who were ammused at first have really gotten into the idea. At a recent festival the were even teaching Tai Chi to their parents.
Who would have imagined it?
